Physics at the Terascale Helmholtz Gemeinschaft

Monte Carlo School 2009

Zoom (1022KB)

The Terascale Monte Carlo school 2009 was held from

     20 - 23 April 2009 at
     DESY Hamburg

The lectures are video recorded and can be palyed from here

Topics:

* Monte Carlo techniques and standard physics
* Automated matrix element calculations

* Monte Carlo event generators:
- Herwig++
- PYTHIA8
- Sherpa
- MadEvent
- Whizard
- Helac-Phegas
- Searches

* Exercises

The school covers Monte Carlo techniques and automated calculation of matrix elements. The focus of the school is on Monte Carlo event generators for simulation of processes beyond the standard model The simulation of QCD and electroweak "background" will also
be covered. In practical exercises BSM signal processes as well as
standard model background will be simulated and analyzed.

The school is targeted both at students who have completed the basic physics education and postdocs who are interested in understanding the principles of Monte Carlo methods and Monte Carlo event generators. The school is predominantly focussed on students from the Helmholtz participating institutes but is also open to others.

The school fee of € 25 has to be paid cash at the registration desk during
the school.

Only a limited number of places are available. If we receive more registrations than available places, a selection will be made according to your CV and application, so please provide the necessary information.

Registration deadline: 31 March 2009

The program and registration is available from MC school agenda.
