Monte Carlo School 2008

The Terascale Monte Carlo school 2008 will be held from

     21 - 24 April 2008 at
     DESY Hamburg

Topics are:
    - Monte Carlo techniques and physics
    - NLO Calculations
    - NLO and parton showers
    - Monte Carlo event generators
        - CASCADE
        - HERWIG
        - PYTHIA
        - SHERPA
    - Exercises

The school covers Monte Carlo techniques and applications in NLO calculations as well as full hadron level Monte Carlo event generators. Predictions coming from different generators will be compared in practical exercises and first steps for comparison with measurements will be shown in tutorials.

The focus of the school is on QCD MC generators with emphasis on parton showers, matching of parton shower and hard matrix elements, hadronisation and multiparton interaction/underlying events.

The school is targeted both at students who have completed the basic physics education and postdocs who are interested in understanding the principles of Monte Carlo methods and Monte Carlo event generators. The school is predominantly focussed on students from the Helmholtz participating institutes but is also open to others.

The school fee of € 25 has to be paid cash at the registration desk during
the school.

Only a limited number of places are available. If we receive more registrations than available places, a selection will be made according to your CV and application, so please provide the necessary information.
